UES LANDS $44.5M CONTRACT
Dayton, OH: UES, Inc. was awarded the Broad Spectrum Engineered Materials $44.5 million research and development contract from the U.S. Air Force. The six-year contract was awarded on Sept. 14 and is to be carried out at the Air Force Research Laboratory, or AFRL, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
The contract involves research and development in four areas: using biotechnology to strengthen materials and devices; exploiting biology by recreating processes in nature to strengthen materials and devices, exploring the way microbes contaminate materials; and developing nanotechnology. The work will be done for the nano and biological materials branch of the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate at AFRL. UES plans to hire approximately 12-15 additional scientists as a result of the contract.
