Gov. Ted Strickland vists UES
Gov. Ted Strickland came to visit students interning at UES on June 5, 2009, to rally support for his school plan tour. Strickland said he would carefully consider any local proposal to assist the community in recovering from the loss of NCR, but he said the Republican-dominated Ohio Senate hindered his ability to help by cutting development department funding in the proposed 2010-2011 budget. While touring UES, Strickland said he would like to see those tools restored. One of the programs cut is funding for a five-year $250 million internship program approved last year. Speaking to a room full of interns at UES, Strickland said that is just the sort of program that will help collefe graduates find good jobs in Ohio after graduation. Strickland also said that UES is just the kind of high-tech company, which does a great deal of work related to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, that will be the key to the region's long-term health. He said the education plan will give young people the training they need to work at a place like UES.
"Even when we are in a recession it's very important when we are competing with the rest of the world that we continue to be leaders in education, especially leaders in higher education," said Nina Joshi.
