Metallic and Ceramic Materials Research contract awarded
UES, INC. LANDS $22.7M CONTRACT
Dayton, OH: UES has won the “Metallic and Ceramic Materials Research” contract from the Air Force. The six year, $22.7 million contract was awarded on December 21 and will be carried out at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) located at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
The contract funds research and development in four areas: advanced metallics, functional metals, advanced ceramics and ceramic composites. The objective of the program is to enhance existing materials and develop new materials for use in turbine engines, space based mirrors, global strike vehicles, high energy lasers, hot metallic structures and rocket engines. The work will be directed by the Metals, Ceramics and Non-Destructive Evaluation Division of the Materials and Manufacturing Directorate at AFRL. UES will employ approximately 40 people on the contract, of which 14 are PhD scientists.
Founded in 1973, UES provides research and development expertise to government and industry customers, and develops technologies for transition and commercialization. UES expertise includes materials science, metallurgy, ceramics, processing science, modeling and simulation, surface engineering, materials characterization, biotechnology, sensor development, nanomaterials and power conversion and analysis.
