Congratulations to Jae-Gil Jung, Sang-Hwa Lee, Jung-Moo Lee, Young-Hee Cho, Su-Hyeon Kim, and Woon-Ha Yoon of KIMS. Their manuscript studying the effects of ultrasonic melt treatment on improving the microstructure and mechanical properties of an Al/Si piston alloy was published July 2016, in Jl. Of Materials Science and Engineering: A. UES’ Robo-Met.3D was used in this investigation to obtain and visualize microstructures.

The UES team (Satya Ganti, Brian Geier, Brian Hayes and Michael Velez) recently presented their work on analyzing porosity in additive manufactured (AM) parts, at the M&M Conference in July 2016, Columbus OH. Porosity is a typical defect in AM parts. State of the art microstructural analysis techniques such as Robo-Met.3D can precisely and accurately quantify porosity in materials. Conventional 2D techniques provided variability in results.
