Three-Dimensional Characterization of AISI M50 Bearing Steel using Robo-Met.3D®

on November 3, 2017

Automated serial sectioning was used to map white etching region networks (WER), which are associated with premature bearing material failures, in an AISI M50 steel that had been subjected to rolling contact fatigue (RCF) tests. The progression of the WERs through 445 microns of material is imaged and mapped. Such evaluations can provide insights into subsurface initiation and progression of WERs.
