Analysis of Abnormal Grain Growth and Improvement in Grain Oriented Electrical Steel Based on Solid-State Wetting Mechanism

Simulations of materials’ microstructure and properties are very useful, especially when validated by accurate physical data. In this study, authors predicted the morphology of abnormally growing (Goss) grains in a Fe-3%Si steel by 3D Monte Carlo simulation. Next, they used Robo-Met.3D’s serial sectioning capabilities to reveal the real three-dimensional morphology of the metal. The results validated their models well.
