UES Wins Manufacturing Research for Digital Utilization (MARDU) Contract

The United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) / Materiel Command has awarded UES, Inc., an Eqlipse Company (UES) a $9.9 million, 5-year contract under a program to revolutionize the state-of-the-art in manufacturing practice. UES will perform research and development to advance areas in digital manufacturing of interest to the Air Force.  

A team of scientific and engineering personnel from UES' Photonic and Electronic Technologies and their collaborators will work with the AFRL in this effort to develop and integrate a diverse set of tools and technologies, all aimed at enhancing manufacturing performance, and the factory of the future. These technologies span robotics, artificial intelligence, sensors and data acquisition, industrial visualization and edge-to-cloud computing.

Mr. Rob Hull, the Director of UES’ Photonic & Electronic Technologies Division, will oversee the effort. “We look forward to our continuing close collaborations with AFRL’s Digital Manufacturing Research Team (DMRT). We’re going to be working in emerging areas such as human-machine teaming and human-machine trust”, he says. Mr. Paul Hauwiller, Program Manager and Lead, adds “Working in DMRT’s facilities and refining the state of the art in digital manufacturing can have immediate and positive impacts for the defense supply chain.”

 
Dr. Nina Joshi, General Manager of Eqlipse’s Advanced R&D Sector, attributes UES’ success to the technical and engineering expertise developed as part of the firm’s capabilities in technology maturation. “This contract complements and continues our research work in these areas at the AFRL” She adds, “It’s exciting to be combine our software and hardware strengths, and add value as part of the National Security Enterprise.”
