UES Wins AFRL's AMCOM Contract

August 24, 2023

Optical Microscope The United States Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has awarded UES, Inc., an Eqlipse Company (UES) a $22 million contract to perform research in microstructural and compositional analyses on a variety of materials in support of the Air Force mission. The contract was awarded on 18 Aug 2023.

Titled Advanced Micro Characterization of Materials (AMCOM), this effort encompasses materials characterization research of aerospace materials of interest to the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). It includes developing tools, software and techniques to advance the state of the art in materials characterization and microanalysis. It also includes fostering research collaborations for highly specialized areas of interest to AFRL.

Dr. Thomas Key, who is the director of UES’ Materials and Processes division, will guide the effort for UES. Dr. Key states “This is an exciting win for UES.  The Materials Characterization Facility (MCF) is a unique suite of microscopy and analytical equipment integral to the AFRL’s mission to advance materials research and development (R&D). My congratulations to Dr. Krishnamurthy Mahalingam, Richard Martens, Melinda Ostendorf and their excellent team who’ve managed the facility and delivered innovative proposal ideas.”

Dr. Nina Joshi, General Manager of Eqlipse's Advanced R&D Sector, attributes UES’ success to the scientific expertise developed as part of the firm’s long-standing history of developing capabilities and expertise in Materials Science. “This is a core area of UES’ strengths, and we’ve been historically involved in the development and management of the MCF.” She adds, “We’re honored to be a trusted partner in this effort to advance the Air Force’s Vision and Mission.”

We're grateful for our expert technical and business support teams who won this contract, and will advance these programs. They are why UES continues to deliver Excellence in Science and Technology for our customers.
